Movement milestones worth a closer look

From babies to big kids, physical therapy helps children move, play and keep up. These are common reasons families come to us.

  • Your baby strongly prefers turning their head to one side (possible torticollis)

  • Not rolling, sitting, crawling or walking around the expected age

  • Walks on their toes, or trips and falls more than other kids

  • Avoids stairs, climbing or playground equipment

  • Muscles seem floppy, stiff or weak

  • Struggles with balance and coordination

What we do

How physical therapy works at Game Changer

Our physical therapists help children build the strength, balance and coordination to move through their world — from a baby’s first roll to a big kid keeping up on the playground.

Early movement, tummy time and torticollis

For our youngest clients, we support the building blocks of movement: head control, tummy time, rolling, sitting and crawling. We commonly treat torticollis — a tight neck muscle that makes a baby favor one side — and the flat-head shape (plagiocephaly) that can come with it, using gentle stretching, positioning and play. We coach families every step of the way so you can keep the progress going at home.

Walking, balance and coordination

For toddlers and older children, we work on gross-motor skills — the big movements of walking, running, jumping and climbing. Whether your child is a late walker, walks on their toes, tires quickly, or struggles to keep up with friends, we use play-based activities to build strength, balance, coordination and the confidence to join in.

Answers

Physical therapy questions parents ask us

My baby has torticollis. How does physical therapy help?

Torticollis is a tightness in the neck that makes a baby prefer turning their head to one side. Physical therapy uses gentle stretching, positioning, tummy time and play to loosen the tight muscle, strengthen the other side, and encourage your baby to look and move both ways. Starting early often makes a big difference, so it is worth asking sooner rather than later.

My toddler isn’t walking yet. Should we just wait and see?

Children reach milestones on their own timelines, but if you are worried, you don’t have to wait it out alone. A physical therapy evaluation can tell you whether your child is on track or could use a little help, and early support is often quick and playful. Reach out and we will help you decide.

What ages do you treat?

We provide outpatient physical therapy for children, teens and young adults, from babies working on early milestones to older kids and young adults building strength and coordination.

Game Changer has been a gift to our daughter and our family. Every single therapist we have worked with is unbelievably dedicated to their role in her development, and they do a great job communicating her progress and sharing her big wins.
