What we do

How occupational therapy works at Game Changer

Our occupational therapists help children take part in the activities that fill their day — playing, learning, dressing, eating and making friends — with more confidence and independence.

Sensory processing and integration

Sensory processing is how the brain takes in and responds to the world — sound, touch, movement, sights and smells. When those signals feel too big or too small, everyday moments can become overwhelming. Through sensory integration therapy in our sensory gyms, we help children learn to regulate their bodies, stay calm and focused, and handle the sights, sounds and textures of home, school and the community.

Fine motor, daily living and feeding skills

We build the small-muscle fine-motor skills behind holding a pencil, using scissors and fastening buttons, plus the daily-living skills that lead to independence, like dressing and self-care. For children who are extremely picky eaters or struggle with textures, our therapists also provide feeding therapy to make mealtimes calmer and less stressful for the whole family.

Answers

Occupational therapy questions parents ask us

What is sensory processing, and how does OT help?

Sensory processing is how the brain organizes information from the senses so the body can respond. Some children are overwhelmed by everyday input, while others crave more of it. Occupational therapy uses purposeful, playful activities — swings, climbing, deep pressure, textures — to help your child’s nervous system feel more regulated, which makes learning, playing and calming down easier.

Do you offer feeding therapy for picky eaters?

Yes. Our occupational therapists work with children who have a very limited diet, gag on new foods, or find certain textures hard to tolerate. We take a gentle, step-by-step approach to help mealtimes feel safer and less stressful.

What does a pediatric OT session look like?

It looks like play. Sessions are built around your child’s interests and often happen in our sensory gyms, with climbing, swinging, crafts and games chosen to target specific goals. Your therapist will also share strategies you can use at home so progress continues between visits.

Stephanie is everything you could hope for in an occupational therapist. She is observant to my son’s sensory needs and makes accommodations during sessions to help regulate his body into a calmer state, and she gives me suggestions so we can use the same strategies at home.
